A species which is frequent in the mesic thermonemoral forests
from the southern part of the country. Some isolated populations are
encountered in Zarand Mountains and Vrancea county (Voieteni-Sihlea)
which are the northern most in the range of this Balkan - Anatolian
species. Naturalists should be attentive to the branches of the
style of this species (which are short and only three) while in the
very similar Crocus
olivieri Gay there are six long branches, the latter being
doubtful for the Flora of Romania and mentioned from the
thermonemoral forests of the Romanian Plain.
On Dealul Mosului Hill, near Orsova, Mehedinti county, in the
area of The Iron Gates Natural Park, April 2011.
